Nicole Navarro overcame 18 years of addiction to establish Pawsitive Beginnings Fox Sanctuary in the Florida Keys, where rescued foxes from fur farms and the exotic pet trade now aid trauma survivors in their healing journey.

Jason Gaver, a veteran dealing with PTSD and significant loss, reconnects through Woodrow, his service dog, who helps him be present for his young daughter and reintegrate into everyday life.

Guided by top experts, the film delves into the science and soul of the human-animal bond — a relationship that provides unconditional acceptance, healing, and happiness.

About The Film

Unspoken Bond reveals the profound, life-changing power of the human-animal connection through three intimate stories of loss, healing, and redemption—showing how animals impact our lives in extraordinary ways, offering something truly irreplaceable.

Guided by insights from Dr. Doug Mader, Dr. Philip Tedeschi, and philanthropist Jackie Ducci (founder of The Human-Animal Alliance), the film explores the science behind these bonds while celebrating their emotional truth. While these stories highlight the human-animal bond at its strongest, they also remind us of a universal truth: animals enrich every life they touch, offering unconditional acceptance, joy, and a form of connection that goes beyond language and transforms us all.

Shannon Dueck, an international dressage rider based in Wellington, Florida, must navigate devastating grief after losing Angel—her beloved Grand Prix horse and Olympic hopeful—to a catastrophic injury. With support from her equestrian community, her loyal dogs, and new horses that enter her life, Shannon learns that healing comes not from replacing what was lost but from honoring the bond that made it so meaningful.

Nicole Navarro survived 18 years of addiction and incarceration, only to find her path to recovery through an unexpected source: foxes. After hitting rock bottom, she found purpose volunteering at a Florida Keys animal sanctuary, where a fox named Lana—a fur farm survivor—approached her with surprising trust. Now, Nicole founded and runs Pawsitive Beginnings, where rescued foxes serve as powerful symbols of resilience and hope for trauma survivors, their shared experiences creating a bridge to healing.

Jason Gaver returned from military service in Iraq carrying invisible wounds. Struggling with PTSD, depression, and profound loneliness after experiencing great personal loss, he felt isolated even in rooms full of people. Then came Woodrow, a service dog who doesn't just provide comfort—he fosters connection, helping Jason show up as the father his young daughter deserves.
